Living Life Large!

“Making the Most of Your Life”

Starting a blog, adding solid content and making sure it consistently delivers value to its subscribers and readers is a huge commitment! I have written some short term blogs and challenges with defined time limits in the past but it is time to do something lasting and permanent. Understanding how important a great blog is to the future of my speaking career as well as to Ten Ten Ministries I had to choose a subject that would be easy to sustain. The choice was critical … the decision was easy!

“Living Life Large” … was the title given to the very first keynote I ever delivered almost 20 years ago. I believe, unknown to me at the time, that it was a gift from God. The message was not only timeless but it leaned on five key principles that allowed me to deal with a wide variety of life and business situations as I customized speech after speech for almost two decades. It also appealed to every audience I have ever shared it with … young & old, front line employees & board room execs, men and women, sales pros to factory workers and on an on. It was always a hit as it had real world application to the audiences lives both professionally and personally.

It is my hope and prayer that it will be equally as powerful as the central theme of this blog. There are a couple of things I would ask each reader to keep in mind. “Living Life Large” will mean something different to every person. We can have a lot of fun and learn a lot from each other knocking around what really constitutes getting the most out of life.

The second important thing for us to keep at the center of our conversations are the ideas, I will call them principles, that we will focus on. My definition of a principle is that it will work anywhere at any time for anybody. We will test our differing perspectives to see which ones fit the definition and what insights are just strategies and/or tactics that work in certain situations.

And lastly but perhaps more importantly … I am a man of faith! I believe in one God and in his son Jesus Christ. I will share a lot of things from my faith and I hope that you will allow me to do so and where you agree or disagree with me please say so. I promise to respect and honor your belief system and reserve the right to ask you to help me understand how you have come about those beliefs. I believe we can have legitimate, adult conversations without turning to some of the wasted rhetoric we see in so many other places.

The 5 principles of “Living Life Large” are;

  • Be Passionate – attitude, enthusiasm and energy are all words that describe the first principle. We will talk a lot about managing the space between our ears in a positive manner!
  • Be Committed - this principle is defined as the willingness to do whatever it takes to be successful. Within the moral, legal and ethical guidelines we should all be bound by the “best of the best” are the men and women who will do!
  • Have A Big Vision – for a life that matters! How do we live in a way that allows us to put our heads on our pillows every night and know that we make a difference? We need to make certain that what we do in life, personally and/or professionally, positively impacts and contributes to the lives of other people!
  • Keep Learning - one of my favorite original sayings goes like this … “as long as we are learning we are living! The moment we stop learning is the moment we start to die”! The best of the best, the most successful and the happiest people in the world are those who have committed themselves to a life of continuously learning!
  • Take Total Responsibility - at the end of every day we are all who, what and where we are because of the decisions we make in life. We can’t always control what happens to us in life but we can be responsible for how we handle it.

So, let’s journey together! Join in the discussion, be willing to test what you have come to believe, be willing to test what I believe by engaging in a lively, respectful and adult conversation about how we can all get the most out of this life we have been blessed with!

    Hey Jim,

    I wanted to tell you that I really enjoyed your message last Sunday. It was so good to hear you speak to the church! It reminded me of your Sunday school class at the old WTBC! Anyway, my oldest son, Cameron is moving to California tomorrow! He is an Actor and has a new agent and its time to make the big move. We have been praying for him since he started acting when he was 5 years old that if this talent was not in God’s will for him, that if would pull the rug out from under him, put up a flag, ect….. Well, it has all gone waaay to smooth. I really loved your story about the boat trip with your son, Jason, Can’t believe he is married!!. I would love to send Cam a “One decision away”/ button as a reminder to continue to keep his eyes on Jesus. Please let me know how I can get one! Tell Christie Hello for me :)

    Blessings,
    Desiree Banfield
